Over 40,000 Students Reached in 18 Years of the Students’ Biodiversity Congress

Since 2007, KSBB has been steadily cultivating a generation of environmentally conscious citizens through its flagship Students’ Biodiversity Congress (SBC). For the last 18 years, this pioneering initiative has grown into a vibrant platform where young minds engage with biodiversity conservation at both district and State levels. Over the years, more than 40,000 students have participated, supported by teachers and parents an extraordinary testament to the programme’s deep community resonance.
The SBC has consistently blended scientific learning with cultural expression, encouraging students to showcase projects, homestead innovations, and creative ideas. Even during the COVID pandemic, when the 2020 edition shifted online, the spirit of collective learning remained strong, while all other years witnessed energetic offline gatherings that reinforced hands on exploration and peer to peer inspiration.
The enduring success of the Congress owes much to KSBB’s active network of Biodiversity Clubs, which motivates students to participate year after year. Complementing this, the Board’s ECASA initiative has further expanded opportunities for young people to interact with scientists and artists, deepening their ecological awareness.
At the heart of KSBB’s approach lies a simple yet powerful principle: catch them young. By instilling curiosity and responsibility early, these efforts are building a lasting legacy of youth driven biodiversity conservation, ensuring Kerala’s ecological future remains vibrant, resilient, and rooted in community stewardship.
